Welcome

Welcome to In the News, the blog from the editors of The Salem News.
This space is designed to keep you informed about what’s going on at your paper and to talk directly with you about local news coverage.
You’re a Salem News reader, so we know you’re not shy. So here’s a chance to ask questions about our news coverage and policies. (Why do we choose the stories we do? Why did we cover one event but not another? Who decided to put that photo on the front page?) We’ll answer as best we can.
We’ll also use this space to talk about newsroom happenings, like the arrival of a new reporter or photographer. We’ll point you to changes in the paper, like the move of our Club Notes column from Monday to Wednesday, new features on the Web, like an addition to our rapidly growing multi-media page.
There’s a lot going on at the News and in the news these days. Let’s talk about it.

Hello Dave and readers,
I am getting very discouraged with EPA and OSHA and their determinations on what is Energy Star Seal. I have been fighting for this Seal for my clients and future clients for about 3 years+. This is a great story!!
The information has been done! It is proven that sticking with your old wood windows proves to be as much as 7 times cheaper to keep them rather than going with replacement windows. Also a good storm window will do the same thing as a replacement window for 1/3 the cost!!! ASTONISHING!!
All this information has been documented and printed in This Old House magazine, kind of bitting the hand that feeds them. The replacement window companies are BIG sponsors of TOH but they have told the TRUTH if you look hard enough. I have compiled so much information on the TRUTH about windows that I am in proccess of doing a documentory about them, “A BIT MORE INCONVENIENT TRUTH”
One of the reasons that these windows have STOOD THE TEST OF TIME is the growth lumber used. First growth lumber was very dense about 30-35 growth ring per inch. Todays lumber is quickly grown and harvested yielding 5-7 growth rings per inch. Homes that are 50+ years of age will have the old wood, so if you put in replacement windows in a home older than 50 years, you have DE-VALUED this building. YIKES!
And everyone knows that many European countries have banned the use of VINYL WINDOWS because they are 1000 times more TOXIC than lead paint poisoning. (well now you know.) Let’s stop the distruction of these Homes and building so generations to come can enjoy the superb craftmanship that was left to us 200 years ago. I have put a 100 year garentee on these windows after my service because,
THEY HAVE STOOD THE TEST OF TIME.
The Best Windows that money CAN’T BUY..
This is my way of fighting what is wrong, by revealing the Truth and talking about the deceptions from the major window Industries.
