The Waiting game…

“No.”

Doc Rivers shook his head. No NEW news on Kevin Garnett.

Shocking. Unfortunately, we just have to wait.

Tony Allen will likely see action tonight, Rivers says.

Nothing too crazy going on here. Acie Law and Marvin Williams are out for the Hawks.

Doc, a Chicago native, likes the Jay Cutler trade. He has an opinion on everything. With just a tad bit of practice, he’d be BY FAR the best radio host in this city if he ever chose to do radio when he’s out of coaching.

He’s smart, informed and he loves to talk…but I digress.

Check for updates in a bit.

Pitt’s up 65-63 on Villanova with 3:57 left.

But the Panthers better start making their free throws. They’re 17 of 25 (68.0 percent), which isn’t gonna cut it if the game remains close.

Villanova, on the other hand, is 16 for 16. DeJuan Blair is 2 for 6. Fouling the big man isn’t the worst idea if you’re Villanova.

The Wildcat fans in the house, by the way, totally outnumber the Pitt fans.

Four minutes left…

Finally, some action

The past few minutes have been fast-paced. Finally. ‘Nova is clinging to a 54-51 lead.

Sam Young has 20 points. He can shoot.

As the dude sitting behind me keeps reminding Jamie Dixon in a hoarse voice, Villanova’s Dante Cunningham has three fouls.

Pitt guard Jermaine Dixon just left the game with a leg injury.

This priceless exchange was just brought to my attention. It happened during the UConn press conference after the Huskies beat Missouri today to earn a trip to the Final Four.

Reporter: Hakeem?
Hasheem Thabeet: It’s Hasheem.
Reporter: I’m sorry. Or I could just call you beast, right?

I think I’m going to try and call Kevin Garnett by a different name. Let’s see what he says to me.

So close…

This one has actually gone down predictably. Pitt is up 34-32 at the half.

Villanova’s shooting 34.4 percent, Pittsburgh’s shooting 41.7.

Again, the game doesn’t have too much pace to it. Should come down to the wire…

DeJuan Blair just got his first breather of the game at 4:45. He’s 265 pounds for God’s sake. Give the man some rest.

Seriously though, the Panthers are going to need him down the stretch. Can he stay strong playing a ton of minutes? We shall see.

Neither team has found a groove. No real foul trouble to report. There’s no real flow either. It’s a Big East game, what do you expect? Ugh.

Villanova leads 28-23 at 3:55 in the second.

DeJuan Blair’s driving layup and foul shot made it 22-20 Villanova.

The ‘Cats had a 10-point lead a few minutes ago, but the Panthers finally look like they’re waking up.

Sam Young has quietly scored eight points. He’s smooth out there.

Hungry Cats

Villanova is rolling. The Wildcats are up 10-5. Scottie Reynolds, the 6-foot-2 junior guard from Herndon, Va., already has five points. The kid has blazing speed. Pitt squeaked by against Xavier. There’s no chance the Panthers will be able to do that tonight.

Once again, Jamie Dixon looks like he’s going to blow a gasket. Pitt just made a defensive stop, then turned the ball over. Sloppiness ain’t gonna work against ‘Nova.

Pitt-Nova

The Garden isn’t quite at capacity yet. I’d say about 70 percent. Pitt’s Oakland Zoo fan section, which is right behind me, is pretty loud already. No buckets in the first six possessions before DeJuan Blair scores the first of the game, as my colleague Chris Ryan points out.

3-2 ‘Nova at 16:30.

This is certainly a pro Villanova crowd. Everybody on Duke’s getting booed. Heartily.

This ain’t Cameron. Even Coach K got booed!
