Brian Scalabrine suffered a mild concussion at practice today, his second in three days.
“I don’t know if he was out (cold), but he was close,” coach Doc Rivers said of Scalabrine, whose noggin first took a beating against Dallas Sunday. “He’ll be out, probably, for quite some time because of that. ”
Doc claims he didn’t quite catch what happened.
“I didn’t see it, I just saw him go down,” Rivers said. “(Like) Sonny Liston-Ali, the mystery punch.”
Ray Allen, however, spilled the beans, saying that Patrick O’Bryant hit Scal in the head as the two were going up for a rebound. (O’Bryant has the ability to inflict pain?)
“He went down and just stayed down,” Allen said.
O’Bryant gave a coy Dr. Nick “Hi everybody” smile and wave to reporters as he walked out of the gym.
No tragedy for sure. But Scalabrine was taken to New England Baptist to be evaluated.
“He’s been playing great,” Rivers said. “The way we’ve been spreading the floor, losing him right now is a tough blow.”
Not much else to report from Waltham today other than Doc saying Tony Allen looks about ready to return from a sprained ankle and could be ready for tomorrow’s game against Minnesota. Except for Scalabrine, everybody else was present.
Celts’ PR director Heather Walker was seen holding a pair of roller skates, presumably belonging to Rajon Rondo (remember the photo in Sports Illustrated last year?). Not sure what the wheels were for this time…
Get better Scal!
