What an outside shooting display put on by the C’s tonight. At the end of the third quarter, they were 10 of 19 from beyond the arc.
You think that’s a good showing?
Orlando went an incredible 23 of 37 from beyond the arc to break the NBA record for threes in a game last night.
I’m 25 so I don’t really remember the game before the 3-point shot.
I do know Chris Ford, who lived in my hometown of Lynnfield for a while, hit the first trey in NBA history on Oct. 12, 1979.
Treys really have changed the game (news flash, I know). Danny Ainge talked about it shooting today on WEEI. Teams just didn’t use it the same way in the ’70s and ’80s. Look at the numbers.
In 1979-80, San Diego Clipper Brian Taylor led the NBA with 90 3-pointers made. The immortal Mike Bratz of the Cleveland Cavaliers led the league with 57 treys in 1980-81. In 1981-82, Indiana’s Don Buse won the 3-point title with 73 treys.
Jump ahead to 2007-08. Charlotte’s Jason Richardson led the league with 243 threes. In 2006-07, leader Raja Bell hit 205. In 2005-06, current Celtic Ray Allen led the NBA with 269, which still stands as a single-season record.
