21-21

Paul Pierce hit a fadeaway jumper at the buzzer to tie the score at 21 at the end of the first quarter. Despite shooting 36 percent in the first, Boston is hanging around. Chris Paul’s looked sharper than Rajon Rondo so far, but it’s early.

Sorry for the late start everybody. Couple bits of news. Tyson Chandler is out with neck spasms. James Posey received his championship ring from owner Wyc Grousbeck during a brief pregame ceremony. At the first stoppage (5:31), New Orleans leads 10-8. Chris Paul just threw an insane half-court pass to David West for an easy [...]

History boys

Boston’s playing for its best start in franchise history tonight. The fellas over at Perk is a Beast are making a plea for more All-Star votes for KP. Dwight Howard is the obvious pick, but seriously, Samuel Dalembert currently at No. 2? What, Shawn Bradley not available? OK that was a little rough. But Perkins [...]

Practice in brief

“That’s a bad shot right there,” Ray Allen said to himself as the ball skipped off the rim. After all of his teammates had left the gym early this afternoon, the 33-year-old guard was still there, shooting 3-pointers. Allen hasn’t had many long-range bricks of late. Sunday night, he scored 35, leading Boston to an [...]

Boston rolled to its 11th straight win last night, beating a young Portland team that had been on a roll. Minor controversy on the bench late, as Glen “Big Baby” Davis appeared to get a tad bit weepy after Kevin Garnett chastised him. Here’s the short version of the tantrum. Here’s the video if you’re [...]

Whoosh…

Rondo sprinting up the floor ahead of everybody. Pierce releasing early and scoring on an uncontested layup. It was pretty funny to watch. Time after time late in the first half, Boston players zoomed up the court for easy baskets. Lackadaisical play from Portland. The Blazers just weren’t getting back on defense. Not sure if [...]

Pruitt is intriguing, especially with Sam Cassell becoming a coach in training. Can you imagine refereeing a game with Cassell as one of the coaches? I wouldn’t wish that upon Tim Donaghy… [...]

Kind of a subdued atmosphere at the Garden. Place isn’t really humming yet. Ray Allen has been the star of the show so far. He hit a wide-open trey from the corner to tie the score at 21, then pumped his first. He also streaked up the floor for a layup about a minute later. [...]

T Oden

The Greg Oden-Kendrick Perkins clash is going to be a good one all night. Oden’s looked good so far. He’s 2 for 3 with a monster dunk — although his decision to hang on the rim was foolish. He was just teed up. Wonder if Perk whispered “ROOKIE!” in his ear. Or something else we [...]

Tony Allen isn’t ready to return to the lineup. The 6-foot-4 guard’s injured right ankle is not right yet. Celtics coach Doc Rivers doesn’t think Allen will be ready for Sunday’s game at Indiana either. “He hasn’t done anything. I doubt even Sunday,” Rivers said. “He’s not 100 percent or really close to it. The [...]
