Boston once again took care of business, smashing the Oklahoma City SuperSonics 96-83. Thunder? Do they want anybody to buy the jerseys? (Maybe people have. I don’t know, I just think the logo too damn dull. Are those colored lines supposed to be lightning bolts?)
A 2-1 Midwest road trip. Last night they held Okie City to 36.9 percent from the floor and an 11-point third quarter. Perk even attempted a 3-pointer!
Not too shabby for the C’s, who by all accounts, are still pumped by Barack Obama’s victory.
“Our main priority is to win the championship,” guard Rajon Rondo told the Globe yesterday, “but it’s a little something we say — ‘let’s go see Obama.’ ”
The new Ubuntu?
Big night all around the league. LeBron scored 41, Amare Stoudemire scored 49 and Tony Parker dropped 55.
Michael Redd is a guy I’ve always liked. Here’s a look at what he’s up to.
KG winning the big one has apparently made Tracy McGrady a bit sad. Richard Justice of the Houston Chronicle spoke to the Rockets forward about it.
McGrady felt a swirl of emotions watching Garnett and the Boston Celtics win a championship last season. Happy for K.G., frustrated for himself.
“It was a little bit of both,” he said. “I was happy for him. At the same time, I feel my day will come. I haven’t been as blessed as some of these guys in the league have been. Regardless of how many years it has taken, I still have that same passion.”
Garnett finally made it out of the first round of the playoffs during his eighth season with the Minnesota Timberwolves. He was never blessed with a great supporting cast, but because he was the focal point of everything, he occasionally was held accountable for the failure of others.
Then last season, the Celtics put Paul Pierce, Ray Allen and Garnett on the floor together. Seven months later, the franchise had its 17th championship.
“I know it meant a lot to him,” McGrady said before the Rockets’ 103-99 loss to Boston on Tuesday. “I know what he has gone through — the criticism he has had to put up with. I kind of feel the same way about myself.
“If that’s what you want to accomplish, you’ve got to have that attitude. I have it, too. I don’t show it like K.G., but I have it. I’ve got a burning desire to achieve that.”
If Ron Artest, Yao and T-Mac aren’t enough for the Rockets to at least advance in the playoffs, they may need to blow things up…But hey, it’s early.
