Archive for October, 2008

Fans are pouring in already. Like true Bostonians, the majority of them are sporting fancy new merchandise. Plenty of 2008 NBA championship T-Shirts and hats around.
Got a look at the special edition jerseys. Traditional white. Green letters and numbers with gold trim and a patch to mark the occasion. It’s similar to what the Red [...]

Looks like Danny Ainge , the 2007-08 NBA executive of the year, is going to be around for a while.
The story can be found here.

Tuesday marks the two-year anniversary of Red Auerbach’s death. I only met him once, at a book signing at our shared alma mater, George Washington University, but I’ll always remember it. This was back in 2004. He had just turned 87, but was still sharp as a Ginzu.
GW athletic director Jack Kvancz, Red’s long-time friend [...]

A few more things about Tuesday night’s season opener to note:
The ring ceremony is scheduled to begin at 7:38 p.m. The game is set to tipoff at 8:02 p.m.

NBA 2K9

Check out David Willis’ look at the 2008-09 Celtics roster.
His power rankings as well.
Health Point in Waltham is hopping again. The Celtics are holding some sort of press conference to celebrate the team’s Massachusetts scratch ticket. It hasn’t exactly created the same kind of buzz coach John Thompson’s appearance did Friday (He was here taping [...]

KG’s influence on his teammates will be discussed. Hopefully there’ll be a few anecdotes you haven’t heard before.
On Monday, co-worker David [...]

My friends over at Perk is a Beast will bust on me for this one, but we must discuss Danny Ainge trying his hand at Borscht Belt comedy.
First thing he says when he steps up to the podium today is this — Okay this isn’t word for word, but I forgot that my recorder — [...]

We’re back!

Hi everybody! Just returned from Comcast SportsNet’s gut-busting annual kickoff luncheon.
Celtics GM Danny Ainge made an appearance, as did president Rich Gotham and owner Steve Pagliuca.
The highlight of the afternoon, for me, was a quick conversation with C’s play-by-play man Mike Gorman. In August, he traveled to Beijing on a combined sightseeing/Olympics trip.
One night, he [...]

It’s a wrap

Boston smothered the Knicks 101-90 at MSG tonight.
Leon Powe had a big game as did Eddie House. (That pic is back when he was little House).
That concludes the preseason.
One more thing if you’re bored. This old commercial’s been all over the Net, but what the hell, here it is again. I’d wear the orange [...]
