A few more things about Tuesday night’s season opener to note:
The ring ceremony is scheduled to begin at 7:38 p.m. The game is set to tipoff at 8:02 p.m.
Former Celtics John Havlicek, Jo Jo White, Tommy Heinsohn and M.L. Carr are slated be in the house.
“I’m going to soak it all in, enjoy it,” captain Paul Pierce said at practice today. “But at the same time I understand I’ve got a game to play.”
As for the rings themselves?
“The worst kept secret in the world,” coach Doc Rivers said with a smile.
If you haven’t all ready seen them, here’s a look. At a quarter-pound each, they aren’t exactly subdued, but they’re not as gaudy as others.
Even cooler, I think, are the kicks Kevin Garnett will be sporting.
LeBron James and company will no doubt provide a stern test. The addition of Mo Williams , Pierce said, was huge. He averaged 17.2 points a game for Milwaukee last season.
“It’s a team to be reckoned with,” said Pierce, who was spotted later in the day at a Dunkin’ Donuts in Waltham handing out 17-cent doughnuts in honor of Boston’s 17th championship. In the words of DD’s other, slightly more ubiquitous and irritating spokeswoman, delish!
