Hi everybody! Just returned from Comcast SportsNet’s gut-busting annual kickoff luncheon.
Celtics GM Danny Ainge made an appearance, as did president Rich Gotham and owner Steve Pagliuca.
The highlight of the afternoon, for me, was a quick conversation with C’s play-by-play man Mike Gorman. In August, he traveled to Beijing on a combined sightseeing/Olympics trip.
One night, he and his wife Teri ventured through a maze of dark streets to find a restaurant their friend had recommended. This place was far from a tourist trap. In fact, by the time a man on the street pointed them in the right direction, there were no Westerners in sight.
At the restaurant, they were asked if they had any allergies. Nope, they said. Then came the food, dish after dish. Menus weren’t an option. A few minutes later, the waiter stood in front of the table, looked at Gorman and said:
“I see you on TV.”
There was only one thing for Gorman to conclude:
“We’re back.”
The Celtics have achieved worldwide fame again. The organization couldn’t be happier.
