My friends over at Perk is a Beast will bust on me for this one, but we must discuss Danny Ainge trying his hand at Borscht Belt comedy.
First thing he says when he steps up to the podium today is this — Okay this isn’t word for word, but I forgot that my recorder — “Phil Jackson passed away a few weeks ago.”
Yes, Laker bashing!
Ainge then launches into a joke. Again, paraphrased.
Jackson goes to heaven, God shows him to a small, broken down house with a small Lakers flag flying. Not too far away stands a huge white mansion with a 50-foot flag pole. A giant Celtics flag is flapping in the wind.
“Why is Red Auerbach’s house so much bigger than mine?” Jackson asks God.
“Oh that’s not Red’s,” God replies. “It’s mine.”
Zing bang boom. I don’t get no respect I tell you! No respect!
At the very least, it was a good attempt. Ainge was his usual talkative self, answering questions. One thing that caught my ear. Ainge said Paul Pierce came to camp 10 pounds lighter than usual. He’s now playing at his rookie weight, which means more explosiveness than he’s displayed in the past few years.
Lastly, a big thanks to Comcast’s Skip Perham.
The C’s have two days off before returning to practice Friday.
