Finally, a post before noon. So anybody who thinks Bill Walker stinks, I’m sorry. But Frank Martin makes a strong case for the kid.
First, before the draft, Martin spoke to Celtics assistant executive director of basketball ops Leo Papile about Walker. Knee surgeries or not, Walker was a player, Martin assured. Apparently, Papile was sold.
“I told people all the time, two years ago, he was considered a top 5 pick in the draft,” Martin said. “Now all of a sudden he forgot how to play?”
Unsung too. Played the 4 instead of the 2 or 3 because that’s what K-State needed.
“He could get away guarding people in the post, but that’s not what his calling could be,” Martin said. “He was wiling to sacrifice what would make him better just to make our team better.”
Did I mention Martin gushed?
“I thought he was the most underappreciated college basketball player in the country last year,” he said. ““He’s the most intelligent (young) player I’ve ever been around.”
Well there you have it.
Celtics at Nets, tonight, 7:30 p.m.
