Why is there soo much repeating the same info on first page,or intro to stories....

Can't find " Obituaries " where did they go ?
  • c cook
I am required EACH TIME, I enter your domain to enter password and Email address. This is not necessary. I subscribe to the GDTimes as well as 3 other newspapers:
The OTHER newspapers recognize me , as I enter "welocme" me, in their heading as well as 'Open" all news articles.
    Can you update pelase???

WHERE ARE THE BIRTHS FROM Parkland Medical?
  • David: You'll be seeing less and less repetition on our websites as we update our system - this is a high priority of ours, absolutely. Obituaries can be found on the gray menu bar running underneath our logo on any page within our website - it's not gone... we just gave it a more prominent position!

C Cook: We are currently working diligently on updating our entire system and login is one of the first things on our list. In the meantime, you can always bookmark the Plus Edition after you've logged in. Then you can go directly to the Plus edition using your bookmark.

Kathy: In the Plus edition, simply search for the word births or Parkland Medical Center in the search box on the right. You can even specify a specific date if you're looking for a particular birth announcement.

What happened to the Plus Edition on line? I am trying to get a copy of an article from Nov 14th.
I can see a small portion of the article, but it says
"Read this article in full with a Plus Edition account."

I cannot find anyway to logon to my Plus Edition account. I have an account that I've used in the past, but the login area appears to be not working.

    Thanks

    Jim
  • To Jim H: As of Feb 1, 2008 there is no longer a Plus version to our website. All news is free and does not require an online subscription. The archives, however, are not available at this time. If there is a particular article you are looking for please send us the headline and publication date and we will make it available.

It was nice to be able to mouse over the list of news articles to see what was of interest to me before I opened each article. I could get a snippet of the news first.

The new website doesn't show the long news list.

Will you consider going back to this previous format? Please?
  • To jay: I agree the ability to hover over the hyperlinks and get a summary of the article is a useful feature. The plan is to add this feature back with enhancements. We will be working on it in the near future. Thank you for your post.

Could you find me a letter, I believe it was to the editor, from a man who wrote against the prop 2 1/2 override in Beverly. I am sure there has to have been more than one but his letter was eloquent. It appeared last week.

Oh, I hate this new format you have, I miss using your archives.

    Thanks.
  • To Jeanne Murdock: Is this the letter? http://salemnews.com/puopinion/local_story_1010...
It appeared yesterday. Here's one from last week http://salemnews.com/puopinion/local_story_0920...

I am trying to locate the public notices is this information available online?
  • To Jennifer: Public notices are available under the Legal Notices link at the bottom of each page. Scroll to the bottom of the home page.... you'll see text links for resources, i.e. HomesNorth, Help Wanted, Legal Notices, etc.
  • Carol
No archives 'at this time'? I am always looking back at news articles and gathering information...I know it's not me, your website is definitely not user-friendly and takes forever trying to make sense out of it all.
  • Carol: Articles posted after Feb 1, 2008 can be found using the Search Site feature on the homepage.

The archives prior to Feb 1, 2008 are not available online at this time but if there is a particular article you are looking for I can make it available to you. Please let us know if we can help you find what you're looking for.
  • Dianne
What's the reasoning for discontinuing archives? I don't want to have to search by key word and I don't want to have to request a certain article. If you ask me, this website still needs a LOT of work. It is not very user-friendly and the information I'm looking for is not available. I liked the old site better even though I thought that one was terrible too. You guys should consider hiring someone (else) to set up your site. I'm sure I'm not the only one complaining.
  • To Dianne: In order to search the site you will need to use the Search Site option found on the right of the homepage screen. Although this does not give you all the search criteria you had with our Plus site it is still a useful tool in finding past articles which we provide free to our users. If there is an article you are looking for prior to Feb 1, 2008 you can send us an email and we can make it available to you. Alternatively, you can visit your local library to view it on microfilm. Thank you for taking the time to pass on your thoughts pertaining to our site.

I am looking for an article "A Place to Call Home" from the Thursday March 5, 2009 issue
  • You can use the "Search Site" form on the right hand side of the page right under the weather. You can also go to one of the sections like News, Opinion, etc. depending on what the article is about, and you should be able to see the most recent weeks worth of articles.
