I spoke with Winnedia Dellemand (in above video) today who, like many of us, learned of a major earthquake in Haiti via TV yesterday. But for Dellemand, this story is personal. Dellemand came to Lawrence in 2007 from Haiti and her aunt and cousin are still in the the earthquake-torn country. She’s not heard from them since the quake.
Eagle-Tribune reporter Yadira Betances is out tonight meeting with more local families who are waiting word. Some have received word already and their worst fears have been realized. We’ll have more up by morning on local families effected.
We’ve been posting stories and photos from the Associated Press all day and following reports from the country on Twitter. It’s just devestating and difficult to even imagine.
