It’s hard to believe it was June when Lawton’s Famous Frankfurter’s owner Joanne Curley shut the local landmark down. With the ground next to the building not-so-slowly crumbling toward the canal, pulling the business’s septic system with it, she had little choice. Well, it’s been six months and Lawton’s has reopened. The sidewalk and embankment next to the building is all new but it’s the same ol’ fried dogs that folks love that were being served up today.
Customers were gobbling up the goods this morning, starting right at 11 a.m. when the door opened. I hung around until 12:30 and the line was still going out the door. Worth the wait? According to everyone I talked to — yes.
