A young Navy woman is dead and her boyfriend is charged with shooting her in a horrible tragedy reported by The Eagle-Tribune yesterday.
The details surrounding the young woman’s death have not been released — other than police statements that Caitlin Trask, a North Andover native, was found shot to death in Darren Mackie’s apartment. They’ve charged Mackie with her murder. Police list Trask’s age as 21, although her MySpace page says she’s 20. We’ve yet to hear Mackie’s side to the story, although a poster on the ET story saying he’s Trask’s brother claims the facts are all wrong. At this point, however, Mackie sits in a cell at the Newport News City Jail charged with Trask’s murder.

Mackie also has a MySpace page, which includes comments over the past week from friends offering support to the sailor.
One of Trask’s last comments to Mackie on the site was dated Oct. 12 and included, “I miss you so much sweetie.”
Trask was in the Navy and joining the military always carries with it its risks to life and limb. When that death comes so senselessly, however, it just seems all the more tragic.
