The church has let out and ceremonies are wrapping up on South Main Street. There is something incredibly moving about large groups doing something in unison. As the casket of Capt. Richard Cashin emerged from Sacred Hearts, a couple of hundred state troopers turned in uniform precision and snapped their hands to salute position. It was a moment filled with sorrow and beauty.
Bagpipes played as hundreds of uniformed police lined South Main Street while a police helicopter did a fly by. Throughout the pagent and ceremony of it all, however, emerged the grieving family — a reminder that someone lost a husband, someone lost a father.
Lt. Gov. Tim Murray presented the folded flag to Cahsin’s wife.
