Heartbreaking story out of Lawrence

Juan Jose Cabrara, of Framingham, has been arrested for allegedly shaking his daughter who officials say now may be blind.

The Eagle-Tribune reported this morning a Lawrence baby who is possibly blind after his father admitted shaking her. Staff Photographer Angie Beaulieu snapped the above photo of this dad after police brought him back from Boston Children’s Hospital where his daughter was taken. Officials say the 8-week-old little girl may now be blind. The story is a gut-wrenching read. From the story:

The infant’s mother told police she performed CPR and the baby started breathing, but blood came from her mouth.

The infant was taken to the Boston hospital where they found she had bleeding on the brain, a broken vertebre, several bruises and new and old retinal hemorages.

    what the hell is going on in lawrence, isn't this like the 3rd senseless abuse case in 2 months? Statistically abuse rises when the economy nosedives, but these are just so outrageously pointless. Are children just becoming more and more an inconvenience?

    It does seem like a lot at once. Very disturbing. Violence is always disturbing, but when the defenseless and innocent suffer, it just tears you up.

    Being a parent of a baby can be high stress, but it's just difficult to imagine someone causing harm to a little baby. My son — who is now 4 — was very colicy when he was a baby — cried for the fist six months straight. It can be like nails on a chalk board. I bought some ear plugs, stuck 'em in my ears when he started screaming and rocked him until he felt better. We've yet to hear in court this man's defence, but whatever happened, the bottom line is a little girl now appears to be blind. What a tragedy.

    I think that the father is sick and should be imprisoned for the rest of is life. You don't do that to a baby. It's insane, and the inoccent baby did nothing wrong.
