Lt. Col. Robert Smith was the commander for Cashin’s field division. He just spoke to media a few minutes ago saying he knew Cashin well. Eagle-Tribune Reporter Brian Messenger was in the crowd and noted some comments from Smith
“Rick Cashin loved being a trooper. He was a trooper’s trooper,” Smith said.
Smith said there has been an outpouring of support from those who knew Cashin.
“They were devestated,” Smith said.
Smith said Cashin considered police work a vacation, not a job.
The street is lined up now with police and dignataries. Attorney General Martha Coakley just arrived.
