In the wake of the ice storm earlier this month that left hundreds of thousands without power for days or weeks, one utility provider has born heavy criticism for its slow response time. Electricity provider Unitil, however, told The Eagle-Tribune today that the devastating storm didn’t just just wreak havoc with their system, but in Massachusetts completely shut it down. Todd Black, spokesman for the company said two-thirds of its NH customers were without power and 100 percent of its Massachusetts customers were without power:
It wasn’t a repair job; in some places, crews rebuilt the system “from scratch,” he said.
In the wake of the storm and the repairs, both Massachusetts and New Hampshire are investigating the storm and response by the utility companies and the companies themselves say they are conducting their own internal investigations. Could more have been done to prevent hudreds of thousands from being without power for days and weeks? That’s just one of the questions to be asked in the weeks to come.
