The effort to restore the carriage house at Lynch Park has a new web site. Organizers have set Sept. 13 as the date for a free event called “I Did, I Do, I Will,” in which couples can renew their marriage vows.

Our story on the affordable condos at Federal Heights has already generated three phone calls today asking for applications, according to the Housing Resource Group, the company handling the application process.

The woes continue for ITV Direct, the infomercial company in Cherry Hill Park. The company ranks No. 1 on the Better Business Bureau’s latest list of most-complained-about businesses. This comes on the heels of recent layoffs and troubles with the courts and the FCC.

The city has reduced the number of polling places from eight to six, eliminating the Senior Center and the Second Congregational Church. The change goes into effect starting with the Sept. 16 state primary. Now there is one polling place for each of the six wards:
Ward 1, Precincts 1 & 2 — Ayers-Ryal Side School
Ward 2, Precincts 1 & 2 — Beverly Public Library
Ward 3, Precincts 1 & 2 — McKeown School

City Clerk Fran Macdonald sends along word that Wednesday is the last day to register to vote for the Sept. 16 state primary, if you’re not already registered. City Hall is open today and tomorrow until 4:30 p.m. and will be open Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.

One of the construction companies in the running to become the general contractor for the high school project has lost its state certification. City Solicitor Roy Gelineau said this afternoon that the decertification eliminates TLT Construction of Wakefield.

It took nearly a year and a half, but the former Bell Market is open. Now known as Beverly Market, the Cabot Street grocery store opened on a limited basis this morning. By ‘limited,’ we mean no meat or produce yet. Owner Ken Patel said those are coming soon. He plans to hold a grand opening later this year.

Consider it the first step in the high school construction project. Workers have begun building two temporary parking lots for high school students and staff to use during construction, which is scheduled to start in late October or early November.
