Maybe there’s hope. The City Council on Monday approved changes to the parking around the old Bell Market in anticipation of it reopening as Beverly Market. “The owner is hopeful to open soon,” Ward 2 Councilor Wes Slate said.
City Planner Tina Cassidy said the store may be “more of a convenience store” as opposed to a full-service grocery store like Bell’s.

When Councilor-at-large Pat Grimes sat down to watch a replay of last Thursday night’s City Council meeting, she didn’t like what she saw. Speaking at the end of Monday’s meeting, Grimes criticized some of her fellow councilors for holding an “impromptu” meeting in the corner of council chambers during a recess in the midst of a heated discussion on the trash fee.
