Heads-up on ’sweepstakes’ scam

Beware of letters bearing gifts. Beverly resident Deb Debski asked us to warn residents of one of those ‘you won the sweepstakes’ scams.
Debski said she got a letter today saying she had won $125,000 in the “American Sweepstakes Lottery.” The letter included a check for $4875 from an Illinois bank that was supposedly a down payment on her winnings. To get the rest, all she had to do was send a check for $2875 to … continued »
