Is another school really at stake?

Here’s a question a few people have asked today: Would another school really close if the City Council doesn’t approve the extra $680,000 for the schools at tonight’s final budget meeting (7 p.m. at City Hall)?
Probably not, according to Superintendent James Hayes. Hayes told city councilors last week that it was probably too late to close another school and suggested severe programs cuts would be made instead, such as eliminating all funding for sports. But Hayes said the ultimate decision would be up to the School Committee.
