Whale of a story
May 20th, 2008 by Paul Leighton

The city’s facing possible school closings, an override vote and the building of a new high school. But the one question on everyone’s mind is: What’s up with the whale on top of One Stop Market?
Well, maybe not everyone, but a few readers have asked. The stuffed whale is sitting on the roof of the addition that’s being built to One Stop Market at 311 Cabot St., across the street from Papa Gino’s.
Tim Berry, the contractor, said his guys found the whale (an Orca, to be precise) while cleaning out the former Beverly Paint store next door and decided to prop it up on the roof. Somebody took a hard hat, wrote the name “Fuzzy” on it, and put it on the whale’s head.
When the whale was down for two weeks while the roof was being worked on, “Everybody complained,” Berry said. So this week it went back up.
By the way, Berry says the addition should be done by the end of July.
Don’t ever accuse us of ducking the big stories.
