The Salem News and BevCam will sponsor a forum on the Proposition 2 1/2 override on Thursday, May 29, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Senior Center at 90 Colon St.
Panelists will be two representatives apiece from Citizens for Fiscal Responsibility (Vote No) and Yes! for Beverly (Vote Yes). Salem News Editorial Page Editor Nelson Benton and local attorney Scott Houseman will serve as moderators.

The City Clerk’s office wants to get the word out that being an unenrolled voter does not mean you are unregistered. With the June 3 override election coming up, some unenrolled voters have been calling City Hall to make sure they are registered.
Being unenrolled means you have registered to vote but chose not to enroll in any political party.

One of Mayor Scanlon’s suggestions for saving money is for the schools to fill positions as they open with employees who work 19 1/2 hours per week or less. Those employees are not entitled to health insurance and pension benefits. In his speech on Wednesday night, Scanlon said there’s potential to fill 200 or more positions in the schools with people working under 20 hours.
