Mayor won’t divulge school plan
May 13th, 2008 by Paul Leighton
Mayor Scanlon isn’t telling. I gave him a call this morning to see if he’d reveal anything about his school plan, after his sudden announcement at Monday night’s public hearing that he had one.
When I asked what he could tell me about it, he said, “Absolutely nothing.”
Scanlon said he won’t tell anybody, including the School Committee, until tomorrow night’s School Committee meeting. Even Tim Flaherty, the City Council president, said this morning that he knows nothing about the mayor’s plan.

I’m sorry to say I’m hearing this is a McKeown issue AGAIN - Is Beverly’s smallest community school back on the chopping block? I am appalled at the Mayor’s actions and complete disregard for the work of the School Committee, the Parents’ Study Group, and the citizens of this city who are WORKING TOGETHER to come up with solutions. He is working in a vacuum and I think that’s called an autocracy, NOT a democracy.
