Uncertain future for Essex Street Li’l Peach
May 8th, 2008 by Paul Leighton
Speaking of vacant stores (see below), another reader, Rob, asks what’s happening with the former Li’l Peach store at 157 Essex St., down the road from the Montserrat train station. Li’l Peach moved out in April of 2007.
John Boudreau Sr., the building’s owner, left a message this morning saying he doesn’t know yet what will happen with the site. Last year, when the store closed, he said the building was built in 1890 and needed a lot of work.
Longtime residents will remember the store when it went by such names as Plummer’s and Pomroy’s in the ’60s and ’70s. Li’l Peach had been there for 22 years.

As a very long time resident of the neighborhood, I remember when the store was called “Larrabee’s”. It was a great place for a kid to visit and I believe it had a soda fountain and fresh ice cream. I had no idea how often I used the store until it was gone. I’m hoping someone will fix the store and reopen.
