Big turnout for Eric Shairs race
May 5th, 2008 by Paul Leighton
Great news from yesterday’s Shoreline 5k, the road race organized to raise money for Eric Shairs. About 250 people showed up in the rain at Lynch Park to help out Eric, who was paralyzed in a pool diving accident three years ago.
Andrea Listro of the North Shore Coast Runners, the group that organized the race, said more than $6,000 was raised. Ben Strain of Beverly won the 3.1-mile race in 16 minutes, 22 seconds | seven seconds faster than his winning time at last year’s Beverly Homecoming race on the same course.
Kelly Allen of Beverly was the top female, in 22:50.
Eric comes from a big Beverly family and was a top athlete at Beverly High (Class of ‘92).
