Welcome to my blog
May 2nd, 2008 by Paul Leighton
Today marks the debut of the Heard in Beverly blog. My mission here is to keep you informed about what’s going on in our city, sometimes as it happens, maybe even before it happens.
Hopefully you’ll do the same for us. If you see something around town and want an explanation, let me know. I’ll find out as soon as I can and post the story right here.
Say you’re driving down Cabot Street, as I was a couple of weeks ago, and saw the Beverly Shade Shoppe being crushed into splinters. Why is a building that’s been there for 70 years suddenly gone? As you’ve probably seen by now, they tore it down to make way for the expansion of the convenience store next door.
With this blog, now you can get those answers the same day.
I’ll also try to keep you up-to-date on what’s coming up that day or night — a public hearing at City Hall, the opening of the summer concession stand at Lynch Park, the Little League playoffs at Harry Ball Field.
Feel free to call me at 978-338-2675 or e-mail me at pleighton@salemnews.com. And you can always post a comment on the blog.
There’s a lot going in Beverly now, with the June 3 override election, the new high school, changes on Rantoul Street, promises of changes on the waterfront. Hopefully this will be the place you’ll check every day to keep up with it all.

It is fun to be able to read the Salem News and now Paul’s blog while we are “living in exile” in Maine. We do get back now and then to visit our daughter Jane and our granddaughters, and like to keep up with what is going on in Beverly. Keep up the good work.

Great to be able to read your blog pages. I grew up in Beverly and have many friends there. The info brings back many memories and I enjoy seeing the changes being made.
Nice to hear that the golf and tennis club are making a comeback. I caddied there when it was the United Shoe Golf Club. Best wishes to you in your blog space. -

Hey Paul, I too was born and raised in Beverly and now raising my own family in Beverly, as a matter of fact I sat behind you in homeroom (the years at BHS will be our secret).
The addition of Heard in Beverly is a great idea giving the residents a forum to express their thoughts and opinions whether good, bad or indifferent and to touch on the topics they wish to. I look forward to logging in and checking out what you and everyone have to say. Thank you! -

I’m loving this…being able to read what’s going on in Beverly.
What I’d like to know is what’s going on with the market moving into Bell’s location.
Any news you can give us?
Thanks.
