Good times at Golf and Tennis

Maybe it’s the honeymoon phase, but people seem pretty happy about the new management at the city-owned Beverly Golf and Tennis Club. Golfers have been raving about the condition of the course, and new manager Manny Barros (above) says about 40 new members have joined since he took over last month. Membership is now at 170.
Barros says he’s getting great cooperation from the city in terms of upkeep and maintenance. That was a major sticking point between the previous manager, Doug Johnson, and city officials.
Barros said the city has fixed the kitchen equipment, the walk-in cooler in the basement, the pipes that water the clay tennis courts. Green screens have been extended along the tennis courts to shield players from the car noise on McKay Street.
The tennis courts are now open and are also in great shape, Barros said. He’s also hired a chef.
